Here is a list of the best Ngong Hills Activities to engage in during the weekend and holidays.
Relaxing and getting back in touch with nature at Ngong Hills is lovely. This magical spot boasts expansive views of the Nairobi cityscape, Mount Suswa, Nairobi National Park, and the Rift Valley. On a clear day, you might be lucky to view Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro.
After visiting this gem several times, I can comfortably state that these are the Top 10 Best Ngong Hills Activities.
Zip Lining at the Kompass
Ngong Hills is home to the Kompass. You can enjoy the breathtaking views of Ngong Hills and the surroundings while ziplining through the trees for a reasonable price. This is an experience that adventurers and nature lovers will always remember.
Their zip line spans the vast Ngong woodland, roughly 250 meters long. This is one of my best Ngong Hills activities. You can also get a taste of the local cuisine at Kompass.
There are two ziplining options:
- Ziplining for 2 lines at KES 1,000
- Ziplining for 1 lines at KES 700
Bike Riding
For an avid cyclist, Ngong Hills offers an abundance of dirt roads, asphalt highways, accessible trails, a few single tracks, and mild slopes. Riding a bike costs KES 116 if you have one.
For KES 500, you can also rent a bike for up to three hours.
Archery
Kompass at Ngong Hills is ideal for settling scores and determining the best archer among friends or family. From my experience, archery is the most competitive activity among all Ngong Hills activities. If you are planning your travel itinerary, please include this activity, and you will not regret it.
For KES 1000, you may purchase 20 archery arrows.
Picnics
Ngong Hills offers stunning views of the Nairobi cityscape, Mount Suswa, Nairobi National Park, and the Rift Valley. All you need for a laid-back picnic area are some buddies, a bottle of wine, a Maasai shuka, and some sunglasses. But remember to bring your meals from home, especially if you have children, as the local eatery is only sometimes dependable.
Most people would instead take an extended trek to their ideal location, but some would rather drive to the cliff’s edge and relax there. Nothing compares to the breathtaking vista of Kajiado below, Nairobi, a perfect sunset, or the low-flying planes approaching the windmills. Because of the cold temperature, don’t forget your sweater.
Point to Note: Picnicking is the most romantic of all Ngong Hills Activities
Hiking
There are seven hills in the Ngong Hills. You can quickly finish hiking in 4 to 5 hours, as the hills begin in Kona Baridi and terminate in Ngong Town. There’s a chance you’ll spot buffalos on the way. The most difficult hills to climb are the second, third, and fourth; it gets relatively easy afterward.
However, some steeper sections may need you to steady yourself with your hands. You feel relatively comfortable because hundreds of people are on the slopes every weekend, and the sights are breathtaking. Bring some form of clothing because the top of the hills can get quite windy and chilly.
The Kenya Forest Service always advises hiring an armed guard because the buffalos may get fierce while mainly on the 4th hill. The cost of the guards ranges from KES 1500 to KES 3000. However, the guard is not mandatory, especially if you’re in a group.
Quad Bike Riding
Racing quad bikes is for people who enjoy a good surge of adrenaline. Second only to zip lining, quad bike rides are one of my favorite Ngong Hills activities.
You will pay KES 1,000 for ten minutes of a quad bike ride.
Kiting
Your kids will appreciate experiencing the wind speeds on the hills, especially if they prefer kiteboarding. There are many fantastic places where you, your spouse, and the kids may park and unwind while your children play soccer, wallow in the grass, or fly kites.
This is the perfect weekend getaway for a family setup. While the kids are busy with their kids, the rest of the family could enjoy picnicking on the many nearby benches.
Camping
There are very many camping points around Ngong Hills. It is the coolest and most involved among Ngong Hills activities. Camping here gives room for indulging in other activities as the area offers many fun options. Several established camping sites will provide all the camping kits, and there is also the option of picking a spot and camping if you are well-equipped with your kit.
Camping at Ngong Hills is an average of KES 2,000 per night.
Team Building Activities
Building stronger relationships among your team members enhances cooperation, reduces stress at work, and enhances the employee experience overall.
When coupled with increased engagement, these outcomes result in teams that are also more productive. Fully engaged workers can double a company’s revenue, according to reports. Team-building exercises are an excellent way to implement these strategies in the workplace, and Ngong Hills is the ideal location for these kinds of exercises.
There are a lot of free spaces to indulge teams, not to mention the many activities the team can do together, such as hiking or competitive competitions such as archery.
Hunting for bugs
Through interacting with wildlife, park visitors can gain knowledge about ecosystems. Both adults and kids love interacting with bugs, and Ngong Hills is where many people feel safe and at ease exploring the surroundings in search of exciting bugs.
Whether they are looking for a particular bug or wish to view bugs, visitors can search under rocks or trees for bugs. The activity doesn’t seem all that exciting in principle until you give it a shot. You won’t regret giving this a try, I assure you.
Conclusion
Ngong Hills is a hidden gem that many still need to explore. It is fun and filled with activities that attract all ages. If you did not have it in your travel itinerary, try it, and you shall live to tell the tale. Ngong Hills is a perfect destination, with the ideal weather for many activities.
